Jaipur was founded on November 18, 1727 by the Kachhwaha Rajput ruler, Jai Singh II, who ruled the region from 1699 to 1743. He planned to move his capital from Amber, 11 kilometers (7 mi), to Jaipur to accommodate the growing population and growing food shortages. water.Jai Singh consulted with several architects in planning the layout of Jaipur and established the city according to the principles of Vastu Shastra and Shilpa Shastra under the architectural guidance of Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Construction of the town began in 1726. During the reign of Sawai Ram Singh II, the town was painted pink in 1876 to welcome Albert Edward, Prince of Wales. Many of the avenues are still painted pink, giving Jaipur a distinctive look and the nickname Pink City.
